See Exhibits at the Garden of the Gods Nature Center for Free!

Garden of the Gods Nature Center

A dinosaur and landscape photography are a few of the many articles on display at the Garden of the Gods Nature Center.

When you visit the Garden of the Gods, you won’t just discover Colorado Springs’ beautiful natural wonders. Enter the Garden of the Gods Nature Center and you’ll find incredible works of art. Visit these exhibits for free!

  • Theiophytalia Kerri - In the late 1800s a fossil dinosaur skill was discovered in the Garden of the Gods. Originally identified as a Camptosaurus, the fossil was transported and lived in the Yale Peabody Museum for over 100 years. When the Nature Center opened, the dinosaur was returned to the city of Colorado Springs. After almost ten years on display at the Nature Center, an expert dinosaur scientist and his associate noticed some irregularities with the original classification, the fossil was taken off display for research and it was discovered that the dinosaur was a brand new genus and species, which they named Theiophytalia Kerri in honor of where it was found and the geology professor who discovered it. Now back in the Nature Center, visitors can see the unique dinosaur on exhibition.
  • Rich Buzzelli Photography - Although local Rich Buzzelli tragically passed away after being struck by lightning when he was 37 years old, his dream of preserving the Garden of the Gods came true. Buzzelli was a landscape photographer who captured stunning pictures of the area and his work is featured in the Nature Center.

In addition to these exhibits, you’ll discover murals, movies, educational programs, and more at the Garden of the Gods Nature Center. Plans are currently being made for special exhibits being developed in honor of the Nature Center’s 20th anniversary, which will take place on May 15th, 2015.

Will you be sightseeing in Colorado Springs? The Antlers Hilton Colorado Springs hotel is centrally located in the heart of the city and provides easy access to the Garden of the Gods and other major attractions.
