Run Through the Night During the 2014 Blue Moon Trail Run

Towards the end of August, the moon is blue in Colorado Springs, which gives people something to howl about. Runners are lacing up their shoes to hit the trails twilight style. Get in on the action and participate in the 2014 Blue Moon Trail Run!

2014 Blue Moon Trail RunThe Blue Moon Trail Run is celebrating its third year. The run is broken down into three events - a 5K, 10K, and Kids Run. As you hit the trails, you’ll see the natural landscape of the Ute Valley Park in a whole new light. When the finish line is crossed, celebrate at the post-race barbecue! Those 21 and over will be able to relax in the Runners Roost Beer Garden and childcare is available for younger runners.

Test Your Athleticism at the 2014 Rocky Mountain State Games!

Every year, athletes of all ages and skill levels from Colorado flock to Colorado Springs for one of the biggest competitions of the year. This year’s event features six days of competition, including a massive Olympic Downtown Celebration and Opening Ceremonies. New events have been added to the games for 2014, which include fast pitch softball, inline speed skating, lacrosse, roller derby, and goal ball. Also, if you’re looking to have fun the fit way, participate in the Color in Motion 5K, where you’ll be doused in bright colors as you run the streets.

Fireworks will be bursting in the air as the Philharmonic kicks off their summer symphony concerts! You’ll hear a selection of patriotic songs and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture on the evening of July 4th. Bring your own picnic or enjoy different dishes at the park’s food stands.

Learn about the history of the holiday in a fun, exciting way! Visitors will experience a unique re-enactment of a Revolutionary War camp and listen to General William Jackson Palmer read the Declaration of Independence. Take part in Irish and Scottish cultural traditions at Pikes Peak Celtic Festival.

The start of the summer is a perfect reason for some cheer. Until 1999, one of the ways Colorado Springs celebrated was with the Pikes Peak Highland Games. Last year, the Games were brought back as the Pikes Peak Celtic Festival, and the big event honoring Irish and Scottish culture is returning for 2014. Put on your kilt and join in on the fun!

Have a grand “ould” time at the Pikes Peak Celtic Festival, where you’ll enjoy three days of Gaelic and Celtic music performances. World Champions Celtic Steps Irish dancing school and other troupes will be performing as well, firing up the crowds. Local pubs and eateries will be present serving up meat pies, beer, and other goods. And what would a festival be without a little competition? Athletes will be tested with Highland Games and pipe and drumming bands will go face to face in a Western United States Pipe Band Association sanctioned event.

America’s Mountain™: Pike’s Peak

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) begins at 9,390 feet above sea level, ends at Pikes Peak’s summit at 14,110 feet high, and consists of 156 turns. Motorcycle and automobile racers from across the globe will compete in a variety of categories in the country’s second oldest motor sports race.  

Participants in the race spend over a week preparing for the main event. A day is spent inspecting the vehicles to make sure they’re in the best condition to withstand the incline of the mountain. Then three days are spent practicing so they can get used to the course and participating in qualifying races. After the qualifying rounds are completed, the track is prepared for the final event.
